New Toll Tax Policy: The more you travel... the more money will be deducted from FASTag! Know what is the kilometer based toll policy
KM Based Toll Policy: New Toll Tax System in the Works
The Government of India is working on a new toll tax system. In this system, drivers will only pay toll tax for the exact distance they travel on highways or expressways. This new system will use advanced cameras and technology called ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) to track vehicles.
What is this New KM-Based Toll System?
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways is planning a toll system where drivers pay based on kilometers traveled, not a fixed amount. Right now, under the 2008 toll rules, people pay toll for about 60 km whether they travel that much or not. But in the new system, you’ll only pay for the actual distance your car travels.
How Will It Work?
- Cameras and FASTag systems will be placed at toll points.
- These cameras will read the car’s number plate using ANPR technology.
- The toll money will be directly taken from the driver’s bank account linked to FASTag.
- If your bank account doesn’t have enough money, a penalty may be charged.
- This new system will be more fair and affordable for everyone.
What Are the Benefits?
- You pay only for the kilometers you drive.
- No more long lines at toll booths.
- The journey will be smoother and faster.
- Fewer disputes over toll payments.
Possible Annual FASTag Pass
There are also reports that the government may launch a yearly FASTag pass. With this, drivers could pay once (about ₹3,000) and use highways all year without paying tolls again. But this plan hasn’t been officially confirmed yet.
