Maruti Suzuki e Vitara Export To Europe Begins – India Launch Coming Soon?

Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) has officially started exporting the e Vitara, Suzuki’s first all-electric SUV, from India to Europe. In August, more than 2,900 units were shipped from Pipavav Port in Gujarat to 12 European countries, including the UK, Germany, France, Norway, Denmark, Switzerland, Netherlands, Sweden, Hungary, Iceland, Austria, and Belgium.

Big Milestone for ‘Make in India’ EVs

The exports began soon after Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the e Vitara’s production at Maruti Suzuki’s Hansalpur, Gujarat plant on 26th August. The Prime Minister praised Maruti Suzuki as a true ‘Make in India’ brand ambassador.

The made-in-India e Vitara will be sold not only in Europe but also in over 100 countries worldwide. The SUV has already been previewed in Milan, Italy and showcased at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo in New Delhi earlier this year.

Maruti Suzuki’s CEO & MD, Hisashi Takeuchi, said:

“The start of export of e Vitara to Europe is a proud and defining moment for us. To succeed in over 100 countries, the SUV must be world-class in technology, design, safety, and performance.”

Battery Production Starts in Gujarat

In a major breakthrough for India’s EV industry, TDS Lithium-ion Battery Gujarat, a Maruti Suzuki subsidiary, has started local production of lithium-ion cells and electrodes. This makes it the first company in India to achieve electrode-level localisation – reducing dependence on imported cells.

These batteries will first be used in Maruti’s strong hybrid SUVs, starting with the Grand Vitara.

• Claimed driving range: over 500 km per charge.
• Will be sold in India through Nexa dealerships.
• Expected to launch in the coming months.

With investments crossing ₹1 lakh crore and over 11 lakh direct jobs created, Suzuki’s India operations have become a global hub for EV and hybrid vehicle production.
