Vinfast, a car company from Vietnam, has opened its first electric vehicle (EV) factory outside of Vietnam, in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu.
The factory is spread over 400 acres and has modern machines to build electric SUVs – the VF 6 and VF 7. In the first phase, the plant can make up to 50,000 vehicles a year, and later it can grow to 1,50,000 vehicles annually.
The factory includes areas for body making, painting, assembling, storage, and quality checks. It will provide jobs to around 3,000 to 3,500 people directly, and more jobs in nearby supply businesses. Vinfast also plans to buy parts from Indian companies and train local workers.
