Different car companies like to use their own designs for buttons, seats, and controls. But when it comes to charging electric cars, many companies are now using the same kind of charging plug that Tesla made. Porsche will soon add this plug to its new cars!
Starting September 9, Porsche owners can start using Tesla’s chargers. Porsche says this is a “soft launch,” which means it’s starting slowly. Drivers will first use the Tesla app to unlock and charge, but soon they will be able to use Porsche’s app or plug it in to charge easily.
The new 2026 Porsche Cayenne Electric will be the first Porsche car to have this new charging plug. New 2026 Taycan and Macan electric cars will come with a free adapter. Drivers of 2025 Porsche cars will also get a free adapter.
Porsche will send a message through its app to tell owners when they can reserve their free adapter. For older cars from 2024 and before, drivers can buy the adapter for $185 starting today.
With this adapter, Porsche owners can use 23,500 more chargers! They can also charge at other stations like Ionna and Electrify America using Porsche’s app.
