Kia Carens Clavis EV HTX E launched at Rs 19.99 lakh

A new chapter in India’s electric car story begins — Kia today unveiled its Kia Carens Clavis EV HTX E variant at ₹ 19.99 lakh, adding more options for EV buyers.

Launch Overview

Kia India has introduced the Kia Carens Clavis EV HTX E, priced at ₹ 19.99 lakh (ex-showroom), joining the Carens Clavis EV family as a mid-spec trim. This launch brings more flexibility in battery options and features, expanding the appeal of Kia’s electric MPV line in 2025.

Alongside the standard HTX E, Kia also introduced the HTX E ER (Extended Range) version, priced at ₹ 21.99 lakh. With these additions, the Carens Clavis EV now has a total of six variants.

Positioning & Price Range

The new HTX E trim is placed above the base HTK+ and below the older HTX in the variant stack. Meanwhile, the HTX E ER sits between the HTX and HTX ER trims.

Here’s a look at the current Carens Clavis EV ex-showroom price range:

  • HTK+ (base) – ₹ 17.99 lakh
  • HTX E (new) – ₹ 19.99 lakh
  • HTX E ER – ₹ 21.99 lakh
  • HTX – ₹ 20.49 lakh
  • HTX ER – ₹ 22.49 lakh
  • HTX+ ER – ₹ 24.49 lakh

By introducing HTX E, Kia reportedly made the larger 51.4 kWh battery variant more affordable (with a discount of approximately ₹ 50,000) relative to earlier pricing.

Battery, Range & Performance

The HTX E comes in two battery variants:

  • Standard Battery (42 kWh): Offers a claimed range of ~404 km (MIDC), powered by a motor producing ~135 PS and 255 Nm torque.
  • Extended Range (51.4 kWh – HTX E ER): Delivers ~490 km (MIDC) range, with increased motor output (~171 PS) and the same torque of the 255 Nm.

Both variants use a front-wheel-drive (FWD) layout.

Kia claims that fast charging from 10% to 80% can be done in about 39 minutes for the extended battery version.

Features & What’s New

Compared to the HTK+ base model, the HTX E variant adds a suite of upgraded features:

  • Panoramic sunroof
  • LED lighting across all three rows
  • Auto up/down power windows for all occupants
  • ECM (electrochromic) rearview mirror
  • Wireless phone charger
  • Dual-tone steering wheel with tilt & telescopic adjustment
  • Leatherette seats
  • Seat-back folding tables
  • Air purifier
  • 64-color ambient lighting
  • Some trims may also receive a dual-tone interior theme and cosmetic enhancements.

One notable difference: unlike the original HTX trim, the HTX E does not include the ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) suite.

The top-spec trims (HTX ER, HTX+ ER) continue to carry full safety and tech features including Leve,l 2 ADAS, 360° cameras, stability control systems, and multiple airbags.

Competition & Market Positioning

In this price segment, the Carens Clavis EV competes with electric SUVs and MPVs such as:

  • BYD eMax 7
  • Hyundai Creta Electric
  • MG ZS EV, Mahindra BE 6, Tata Curvv

Kia’s strategy with the HTX E launch is to bridge the gap between lower and mid trims, offer more choices to buyers, and make the extended battery more attractive and accessible.

What It Means for Buyers

  • Buyers concerned about range can opt for the ER variant
  • Absence of ADAS in HTX E can be a drawback for safety-conscious buyers
  • The competitive pricing position may push other EV makers to offer more options
