In August, the number of vehicles sold in India stayed almost the same as last month. But it was a little higher compared to last year, according to a report.
Two-wheelers (like bikes and scooters):
More people bought bikes and scooters because of festivals like Onam and Ganesh Chaturthi. But heavy rain and new tax rules made some people wait to buy them, hoping for lower prices later.
Passenger vehicles (like cars):
Car sales went down a little. Many cars were waiting in stock because some people were waiting for new tax cuts before buying. Also, bad weather caused problems in getting cars.
Commercial vehicles (like trucks and buses):
These sold a little less than last month but more than last year because of online shopping and people replacing old vehicles.
Tractors sold a lot more because of good rain and farming needs.
Three-wheelers, like auto-rickshaws, sold much less.
New tax rules (GST 2.0):
These new rules made people feel positive. Many families want to buy vehicles when the tax is lower, so they are waiting.
The head of the vehicle dealers’ association said that even though some people are waiting, most are still interested in buying. He thinks that with festivals coming up, more people will buy vehicles, and sales will grow a lot in September.
