Genesis has decided to stop selling the 2025 G80 Electrified (eG80) in the U.S. The company hasn’t given a long explanation, but experts say the main reasons are slow sales and upcoming tariffs (extra import taxes) on electric cars made in South Korea.
The G80 Electric was built in South Korea, so it didn’t qualify for the U.S. federal EV tax credit. This made it harder to compete with U.S.-made luxury electric sedans.

- Range: About 282 miles per charge (EPA estimate)

It was well-built and stylish, but it couldn’t win enough buyers in the American market.

The 2026 Long Wheelbase Model
Globally, Genesis is preparing a new 2026 version of the G80 Electric with a longer wheelbase, fresh design, more luxury inside, and a bigger battery (94.5 kWh). However, it will likely not be sold in the U.S. for the same reasons as the current model.
Why This Matters
This move shows how challenging the U.S. market can be for imported luxury electric cars. Local brands like Tesla, Cadillac, and Lucid have an advantage because they are made in the U.S. and qualify for tax credits.
