6 Upcoming Tata & Mahindra SUVs To Watch Out For in India

Tata Motors and Mahindra & Mahindra, India’s leading SUV makers, are all set to launch six brand-new SUVs in the next few months. Both brands already enjoy huge popularity—Mahindra has the widest SUV lineup with 12 models (including 3 EVs), while Tata sells 7 SUVs (including 3 EVs).

Now, they’re gearing up to bring petrol-powered, electric, and facelifted SUVs that could shake up the Indian car market. 

1 & 2. Tata Harrier Petrol and Tata Safari Petrol

  • Launch Timeline: November 2025 (earlier than expected, preponed from Jan 2026 for Diwali season)
  • Engine: 1.5L 4-cylinder turbo-petrol (166 bhp, 280 Nm)
  • Gearbox: 6-speed manual (standard), 6-speed torque converter automatic (optional)
  • Price Advantage: Will be cheaper than diesel versions
  • Design & Features: Same design and features as diesel models

The petrol option will make both Harrier and Safari more affordable and accessible.

3 & 4. Tata Sierra EV and Sierra ICE

  • Launch Timeline:
    • Sierra EV: Before April 2026
    • Sierra ICE (Petrol/Diesel): After the EV launch
  • EV Specs:
    • Likely 65 kWh & 75 kWh battery options
    • Range: 600+ km on a full charge
  • Engines (ICE): 1.5L turbo petrol & 2.0L diesel (same as Harrier & Safari)

The legendary Sierra is making a comeback in both electric and ICE versions, with the EV leading the way.

5. Mahindra XEV 7e

  • Launch Timeline: End of 2025
  • Platform: INGLO EV platform
  • Body Style: 3-row SUV (sibling of XEV 9e)
  • Rivals: Kia Carens Clavis EV (the only other 7-seater EV in India)
  • Features: Premium interiors, futuristic design but not as radical as XEV 9e

XEV 7e will be Mahindra’s third Born-Electric SUV, focusing on families who want an all-electric 7-seater.

6. Mahindra XUV700 Facelift

  • Launch Timeline: Q1 2026
  • Codename: W616
  • Design: Inspired by BE 6 and XEV 9e
  • Engines: 2.0L turbo-petrol & 2.2L turbo-diesel (same power as before)
  • Gearbox: 6-speed manual & 6-speed automatic
  • Features: Refreshed design, advanced tech-loaded cabin

The XUV700 facelift (W616) will bring a refreshed look, new features, and an upgraded cabin while keeping the same trusted engine options.
